Envelope sleeping bags (also known as blanket sleeping bags) are characterised by their rectangular shape and provide a comparatively high level of freedom of movement. They have a zipper that extends over two sides. This allows the sleeping bag to be opened completely and used as a blanket. Another special feature: Envelope sleeping bags can also be easily zipped together to form a double sleeping bag - to do this, you need to select a right and a left zipper version when buying your sleeping bags. Envelope sleeping bags are ideal for the summer, for festivals and as a blanket substitute indoors.
Mummy sleeping bags are cut closer to the body and also have a hood, which minimises heat loss. They feature good insulation, a more compact pack size and a lower weight, which makes them the ideal companion for colder regions, as well as for hiking and mountain tours.
Sleeping bags are generally divided into comfort, limit, and extreme temperatures. These are standard values according to EN 13537, which are determined in research laboratories. We'll explain the differences below:
This value indicates the temperature at which a standard woman can still sleep comfortably in a sleeping bag without feeling cold.
This value indicates the temperature at which a standard man can still sleep comfortably in a sleeping bag without feeling cold.
This value is measured under extremely cold conditions and indicates the temperature at which the standard woman can just about manage to stand it in the sleeping bag. Sleeping at these temperatures is no longer comfortable. There is a higher risk of hypothermia.
We recommend that you always orientate yourself according to the comfort temperature. It should be noted, however, that the perception of cold varies from person to person and is often also dependent on how you are on any given day. Influencing factors are, for example, age, fitness level or routine in sleeping outdoors. The right fit, the insulation provided by the sleeping pad and the tent, and the prevailing weather are also significant.
Depending on where you are going and what time of year it is, you will need a different sleeping bag.
A double sleeping bag is larger than a conventional sleeping bag and offers enough space for two people. A double sleeping bag is ideal for a romantic break with your loved ones or a camping holiday with children who like to cuddle and seek closeness.
Separable double sleeping bags can be easily divided into two single sleeping bags thanks to the zip. This makes them versatile and, depending on your plans, they can also be used as single sleeping bags.
Whether for an overnight stay with friends, in grandpa's garden or on a school trip - children's sleeping bags are great for a variety of uses. They are perfectly tailored to the ergonomics and needs of children and thus offer good thermal insulation. Colourful designs such as Benjamin Blümchen and Princess Lillifee make sleepovers a very special experience. Our children's sleeping bags in the Sorgenfresser design are particularly popular.
It should be noted that the standard values for temperatures do not apply to sleeping bags for children, as each child's perception of temperature can vary greatly depending on their age, physique, and degree of fatigue. Your own experience is needed here.
There are both envelope and mummy sleeping bags that can be joined together to form one large double sleeping bag. When buying your sleeping bags, you need to choose a right-hand and a left-hand zipper version.
