As a classic winter vegetable, kale is the perfect dish for the colder months. So grab your cosiest blanket and make yourself really cosy outside with Dutch oven kale.

Preparation with briquettes Depending on the size, burn approx. 16-20 briquettes and place 1/3 of them on the lid and 2/3 under the Dutch Oven.

Preparation

1

Remove the stalk from the kale and cut it into strips. Then wash and dry the kale, preferably using a salad spinner.

2

Peel the onions and potatoes and cut everything separately into large cubes - just like the bacon. Cut two of the sausages into slices.

3

Pour the lard into the Dutch oven and then add the onions to brown them.

4

Once the onions are translucent, add the kale to the pan. Leave everything to cook for about 10 minutes.

5

Add the beef stock and about 2 tablespoons of mustard and stir everything in well.

6

Now all you have to do is fold in the bacon, potatoes and sausage pieces. Put the lid on the pot and leave the kale to simmer in the Dutch oven for about 1.5 hours.

7

Flavour the dish with salt and pepper. After the cooking time, add the remaining sausages to the pot for about 30 minutes. Then serve the kale with sausages on deep plates or in bowls.

If the kale is too runny after preparation, you can simply add a few rolled oats. Stir in the flakes - they will absorb the liquid and thicken the kale.
