Gingerbread is a very popular biscuit - whether as a heart at the funfair or in winter at Christmas time. You can find it in many different variations. Here we present a quick and easy gingerbread recipe for baking in a Dutch Oven Square.
Preparation with briquettes
Depending on the size, burn approx. 18-22 briquettes and place 8-10 under the Dutch Oven and the rest on the lid.
Preparation
1
Mix the flour, baking powder, brown sugar, baking cocoa and gingerbread spice in a large bowl and set aside
2
Mix the butter, milk, apple sauce and sugar beet syrup with a mixer and then add the flour mixture to make a smooth dough.
3
Then line the Dutch oven square with baking paper so that nothing sticks. Pour the batter into the tin and place it with the lid over the preheated briquettes.
4
Finally, place the briquettes on the lid and leave the gingerbread to bake for around 25-30 minutes.
5
You can easily test whether the gingerbread is firm with a wooden stick. If the dough sticks, it needs a little more time.
If you like it fruitier, you can refine the gingerbread recipe with candied orange peel. Alternatively, for a sweeter gingerbread, decorate it with dark chocolate or sprinkle it with icing sugar.
