Have you decided to do your workout in your own home instead of the gym? But you probably still need a few tips on how to set up your home gym and what you should pay particular attention to. We'll tell you how to integrate your private gym perfectly into your own four walls and personalise it.

1. choice of location for your home gym

Where exactly you place your home gym will of course depend on the nature and available space of your flat or house. If you have a lot of space, you can transform an entire room into a home gym oasis - for example the former children's room. If you're lucky, you might have a basement room or garage to choose from that you can use for your home gym. Just make sure you have the correct ventilation (see point 5)! With your own room for working out at home, you can train uninterrupted - one of the many advantages of a home gym. Here, all the equipment can be nicely positioned and doesn't have to be constantly moved or set up.

Make sure - if the equipment is permanently in one place - that there is enough space between each piece of equipment to be able to perform each exercise properly.

Even if you don't have enough space, you can still do your workout from home. We have some space-saving fitness equipment for you to choose from. In most cases, the living room is the largest room. Here you can easily set up an area as a home gym. Other popular rooms are the study or bedroom, where it's best to set up a small corner for your daily exercise programme.

2. equipping your home gym - choice of equipment

Before you decide on a piece of fitness equipment, measure the available space. This will save you a lot of trouble afterwards. With exercise equipment, for example, make sure that the machine has enough space when set up so that you can perform your exercises properly.

Folding fitness equipment & small appliances

Small or foldable training equipment** is particularly suitable for lack of space. They can be stowed away outside of training to save space. Or you can switch between different machines during your workout. Alternatively, if you also perform exercises with a fitness mat, you have the space you need to use it.

Our Nemo Compact water rowing machine, for example, can be easily stowed away and rolled from A to B thanks to its set-up function and transport wheels. Rowing machines in particular are suitable for an effective full-body workout and work almost all of your muscles.

We also have some foldaway fitness bikes, including the Foldaway X-2000, which is easy to fold up and saves space.

Small devices** such as a fascia roller also contribute to your effective training and help you to strengthen your connective tissue or relieve tension. Other popular small pieces of equipment are dumbbells and fitness bands.

Popular large appliances for your home gym

Cardio machines** such as ergometers, cross trainers or rowing machines are particularly popular. This is because you increase your endurance with these machines. This not only strengthens your muscles, but also increases your lung volume or lowers your heart rate, for example. Cardio training therefore contributes to your general health.

Multifunctional devices are also an ideal purchase for anyone who wants to save on higher purchase costs and a lot of space. Multifunctional devices combine several devices in a single training device. Our 3-in-1 multifunctional device Vinur, for example, combines cycling, strength training and rowing workouts - an excellent all-rounder.

It is important to always opt for high-quality training equipment. Longevity pays off quickly. Training equipment can therefore be a purchase for life.

3. the right environment for your private gym

One recommendation for the design of your private gym is a mirror. Here you can observe your posture and perform each exercise correctly without adopting an incorrect posture or correcting it if in doubt. If there is not enough space, ask someone to correct your posture - at least to start with when you are trying out new exercises.

Also create some space for small equipment - a chest of drawers or a shelf is ideal. Store equipment such as a fascia roller, the sling trainer, fitness bands and dumbbells as well as towels there.

If you want to create a proper training plan, it's best to put a whiteboard or similar on the wall to plan and internalise your training routine.

Another tip: music often works wonders and with the right choice of music you can get the motivation you need if it's not available. A TV and your favourite series will help you relax during cardio training. If you connect the TV or your tablet to the Kinomap function, you can train virtually in favourite places around the world. Row, run or cycle wherever you want.

4. be considerate of your neighbours - avoid noise in the home gym

A floor protection mat fulfils a number of functions and is a must for every home gym. To ideally equip your private gym, place a floor protection mat under your fitness equipment. These are available in different sizes, such as our floor protection mat for rowing machines or a smaller floor protection mat for ergometers, for example. They ensure a secure footing and the necessary stability of the equipment. They also provide noise insulation during training. Make sure you are considerate of your neighbours when training from home. Noise reduction is the be-all and end-all.

If you drop something, the floor mat protects you from damage and cushions the impact.

5 Ensure sufficient ventilation during your home workout

Small rooms, basements without windows or attics that are poorly ventilated are particularly unsuitable for a private gym. However, if you choose a garage or basement room with good ventilation, also make sure that these rooms are dry. A permanent exchange of fresh air should be guaranteed. Otherwise, the humidity in the room will be too high due to the strenuous training - resulting in mould. Make sure you ventilate the room properly and extensively during and after your workout. This will ensure that the humidity is not too high and that the room is supplied with fresh air.

Setting up your home gym requires a little preparation: Decide on the right space for your private gym and measure everything before you buy any equipment. The design of your home gym will help you to complete a successful daily workout. When choosing fitness equipment, you should opt for high-quality products and choose the available space accordingly.
