Are you looking for a vegetarian or vegan alternative to pulled pork or pulled chicken? Then why not try pulled jackfruit! This fruit is an ideal meat substitute. As well as delicious pulled jackfruit burgers, you can of course also use it to make sandwiches or wraps - whatever you fancy!
Preparation with briquettes
Heat approx. 8-10 briquettes and place them under the Dutch Oven.
Preparation
1
Drain the jackfruit and then wash it thoroughly. Place it in a bowl and shred it with your hands or a fork. Add the paprika powder, cumin, coriander, salt and about 1 tbsp of oil and mix everything together. Leave the mixture to infuse for a moment.
2
In the meantime, peel and finely chop the garlic and onion. Cut the jalapeño into fine rings if necessary.
3
Heat some oil in the preheated Dutch oven and cook the onions until translucent. Then add the garlic and jalapeño.
4
Now add the jackfruit mixture to the pan and sear. Once it is crispy, add a few tablespoons of BBQ sauce and leave everything to simmer for 10 minutes.
5
Now top the burger with your choice of toppings and a tasty burger sauce. The pulled jackfruit with BBQ sauce goes perfectly with tzatziki or guacamole, for example.
You can also use the same ingredients for wraps or savoury sandwiches, which are also practical to prepare on the go.
